Some US states used to post distance signs in both km and miles, but
I haven't seen one in a long time. (Interstate highway exits are
often given by a number that represents the road distance from the
state border, starting with the southern or western border, depending
upon the orientation of the road). I've never known US speed limts
to have been given in KPH, however--I'd assume that would invite
confusion.
km signs indeed do exist. I-19 from Tuscon, AZ south to the Mexico
border is an example.. distances and exit numbers are given in km. I
can't remember for sure if speed limits are give in km/h at all, but I
think they aren't.
