the same Victor that made the 9000 started out by
making calculators I was told (by a dude who worked at
JPL). Possibly adding machines even earlier? But I'm
extrapolating for no good reason. Is this the same
company?

IIRC, under threat of
legal action, they actually forced a retailer who'd
been doing business as
Victor Electronics for 20 years to change his
business name. Victor got a
fair amount of press when it started up--but didn't
last long...and then it
fizzled.
