I had thought about building a state sequencer this way once for a project
where the sequence was of programmable length, but didn't require branching.
Still need that counter to figure out where things are, so I'm not
sure if the use of a FIFO drops the parts count by much.
Probably a CPLD+RAM would be the lowest package count.
