and the bottom is one. A secondary clamp betweenthe top plate and the punch plate might be
another. They do work well enoughto get the job done. They do have the occasional hanging
chad problem butcareful usage can turn any 360K disk into a hard sectored. They where
designedsuch that one could punch the holes without damaging the envelop ( myclever part
of the design ). I do have drawings around someplace but wouldhave to look.We made the
punches to cost $35 each. A better design would cost more.If someone were to have them
made in China, I suppose they could be cheaper.
And there's Dwight!
So, I can dig up the papers that are basically the "as-built"
documentation for the punches we ultimately built and sold.
As Dwight mentions, this was a labor of love because my buddy did the
work at a loss. We used good materials and the labor was much greater
than anticipated and we ulimately exceeded his prototype shop bandwidth.
He does this sort of thing for the medical industry but he makes one or
two prototype units, usually for special projects and experimental use
and so making 20 or 50 of anything is not his deal. He stuck with it
though and we were very happy with the results but now for any production,
we'll have to go somewhere else.
