Having spent several years in the FDDI ANSI committee,
I know all the
"why FDDI is better" FUD. It doesn't hold water. And it certainly
doesn't justify the absolutely mindboggling complexity of FDDI
compared to Ethernet.
For what it is worth, we (ANS) found FDDI to be really rather more
bulletproof than Ethernet, even when we moved major POPs from live FDDI
rings to FDDI stars.
Smooth as silk, actually.
