In the meantime, I got the CPU board from a non working 9826
(09836-66510, I love the nuimbering system ;-) )
HP subassemblies, like PSBs, have part numebrs which are 2 blocks of 5
digits. The first block is the model number (with leading zeros) of the
first model to use that subassembly.
Also note that in a lot of cases the colours of the board ejector handles
gives the last 2 digits of the part number using the obvious code.
and now the RAM gets recognized and boots.
But the system thinks (Monitor at Boot up) it is a 9826A.
You may find swapping the (socketed) ID PROM will sort that out. The boot
ROM clearly rcgonises the 9836 hardware, it gets the video system
initialised correctly (this is different between the 9826 and 9836 after all)
