When you say DVI-only, is it DVI-I (i.e., the DVI

easy to acquire a cheap DVI->DE15F adaptor and slightly less easy to
acquire a cheap DE15M->DA15F adaptor (there are plenty of DE15F->DA15M
adaptors around for attaching VGA monitors to old Macs, but somewhat
fewer for going the other way).
. . . and last time that I needed one (DE15M<->DA15F), on eBay it was

I have just been given a neat small-form-factor
Dell P4 3GHz PC. I
would like to give it to my mother.
Her current computer is an old beige G3 Mac with a 17" Apple display.
I will probably have to fly to visit her, and I can't afford to buy
her a new screen. So, if I could connect the PC to her old monitor,
that would be ideal...
Not sure where you'd look in the UK, but I'm sure you could get the
proper adaptors around here for less than $15.
Is her display one of the translucent CRT Apple Studio Displays? The
17" one has a nasty design flaw where a lot of them will start pinging
and flashing and eventually fail outright. I have one and would like
to fix it, because it's an otherwise decent monitor, but I don't know
where I'd go about finding a replacement flyback (nor even if that's
the issue). In any case, be aware of it if that's the monitor she
has; if it's an LCD or if it's not the Studio Display, then never
mind.
