Used to be that when I received a 'dead phone call' (phone rings, but no
response to a 'hello'), I'd whistle into the phone, varying the frequency of
my
whistle, and sure enough, sometimes I'd get a modem responding. Somebody with
the wrong number in their modem or fax machine..
