I'm not
sure I know how to do that. I was just going to pull the
converter and power it up by itself to see if I get -12v out of it.
That's exactly how you do that. Just disconnect that output and see what's
there. If it gets close to what you could call normal, then there's some
other problem, like a shorted bypass cap or similar.
If the DC-DC converter is indeed blown and I can actually get it off the
board, (difficult to identify the actual pins and hit 'em with a solder
sucker) I may just replace the power supply with one that can provide -12V
and leave the converter out.
Apparently the 1489 has been replaced in the past as there is visual
indication of a post-production soldering job being done on that chip.
Didn't install a socket tho. :(
