Acorn were always extremely good on the hardware front, and they
certainly got the OS / ROM routines right for the machines up until the
ARM-based hardware running RISCOS; after that though personally I feel
they lost the plot a little on the software side of it (even though the
hardware was still way better than what was going on in the PC world at
the time)
