looked online for a bit, but saw no specific font that would have historical
value, except Popular Electronics' font on the cover that month:

I made one of those once, about 12 years ago. I used Letraset dry
transfer letters, which is what I remember the original Elf project
had used. Someone on the list sent me a few used sheets and I used a
few more numbers.
