In the 80's I remember going up to DEC and taking a course on RT11. It
lasted a few days and you would have class time and lab time on a PDP11
(I used a floppy based 11/34). The course was taught out of a bound
book that you got to keep. The one I had was based on RT11 v4.
However, they were going to start teaching v5. If you could dig up one
of those course instruction books they were wonderful for learning RT11.
They only got into the hands of people who took those courses and would
be very rare.

The main thing I can think of is for RT-11.
The RT-11 Technical User's Series:
Working with RT-11
Tailoring RT-11 - System Management and Programming Facilities
Programming with RT-11 - Vol. 1, Program Development Facilities
Programming with RT-11 - Vol. 2, Callable System Facilities
The first was published in 1983, the other three in 1984. They were
from Digital Press, and for RT-11 V5.
The only other book I'm aware of is the "RSTS/E V8.0 Internals
Manual", but it's definitely *NOT* what you're looking for.
I've never seen any other books on RT-11, RSX-11M/M+, or RSTS/E that
weren't part of the doc set and were published. You might get lucky
and find something written for internal use at a College, Corporation,
or even the US Government.
The Doc Sets do include an intro book.

As long as we're talking about teaching &

pose the following query:
Does anyone have any good references for learning/using RT-11,
RSX-11, and
RSTS (the principal PDP-11-based operating systems), beyond the various
online DEC-docs?
Absolutely not "for dummies" style books (were "for dummies" books
yet been
invented in the 70's?), but neither simply a regurgitation of a DEC
reference-manual!
Thank you,
