Do you know why they use that packaging?
Here's a little hint: Shrinkage. It's easier to steal (say) a memory
card in a cardboard sleeve/box (tear the cardboard off!) than it is to
steal one that's in a solid-plastic blister pack.
Shoplifters are known to remove the packaging from items *in the middle
of shops* to avoid tripping any EAS systems (checkpoint sensors, that
sort of thing) on the way out. Also makes the stuff easier to hide
inside (say) a thick jumper or coat.
Of course you still get the brazen, balls-of-steel types who just grab
stuff and run like a scalded hare. It's more fun when they go flying
down the stairs in front of the shop. So rare to see karma in action :)
