Get out of the 20th century, please.
Why?
This _is_ classiccmp. The SCIS->whatever interface will be used with 20th
century computers. And I hate to say this, but a lot of stuff back then
seems to work properly, and be easy to keep working, which is more than I
can say for many things today. Not that I would ever use an 8255 for
anything, a worse-designed parallel interface chip is hard to imagine!
