Can't always snip the pins. Generally speaking,
desoldering a chip isn't necessarily catastrophic, but
what if it's old and irreplaceable? And you don't have
access to all that high tech stuph. It just seems to
me that if you flood the chip with cool water, you'll
probably totally eliminate the possibility of smoking
it. Somethings just can't be replaced you know...
