'goto' is still very much alive : only they
call it throwing an
exception these days.

{
... process ...
if (! index(s,'*'))
{
... compute new pointer and store it in is ...
goto no_slash_after_all;
}
} else {
... process ...
no_slash_after_all:
... more processing ...
}
A certain kind of goto usage turns into throwing an exception, perhaps.
But that doesn't mean that goto is alive and well, any more than some
uses of punched cards being replacable with magnetic disks means that
punched cards are alive and well.
