quality of the file, or anything else, before I start doing a whole

Well, I'd rather have the scans, especially in greyscale form. (If you
don't want to take the space, I'll happily host them myself, for the
sake of preserving the information. For archival purposes like this, I
almost always come down on the side of preserving information.)
