I just finished scanning the installation manual, and the photo of the
bottom of the floppy box clearly shows a Micropolis disk controller board.
The Futuredata manuals I bought will be up later today.
That would figure with the GCR encoding--although I did not realize that
Micropolis got into the 8" drive arena with their controller. My
interaction with them was strictly for the 5.25" 100 tpi gear.
You're miles ahead of where I started with the Futuredata. Lockheed
Martin sent about 5 8" floppies. No information whatsoever on what they
came from--the people who might have known, given Lockheed's project
setup, were long gone.
It wasn't until I actually decoded the format and filesystem that I
discovered the "FUTURE DATA" string in a couple of programs that my
memory kicked in and I could identify the system that produced them.
The project being developed used the 8086, IIRC.
If you're interested, I may be able to locate my work (probably done
about 10 years ago, so no promises) and shed a bit more light on things.
