You do not specify the make/model/interface of the drive.
I am guessing EIDE.
If so, I would expect that you'd have to use some kind of Disk Manager
tool. These were common in the days of DOS and big EIDE drives, and
many hard disk vendors bundled an install floppy or later CD with
their drives.
They were once generic tools but HD-bundled ones are often
vendor-locked and check the ID in the drive firmware. You can download
them but you'll need the right one.
Note, you will have to repartition and reformat your drive. Also, you
must boot off the drive with the disk manager installed; if you boot
off other media without the disk manager in the firmware, then the
drive will be inaccessible or appear to be the wrong size, and
attempts to access it will probably corrupt its contents.
If you use a SCSI drive, you will probably not be affected by the problem.
