just better to go with soft-sector diskettes. Those 5.25" diskettes,

Given that most late-manufacture 5.25" drives are pretty accurate
when it comes to motor speed, could one simply synthesize a SECTOR*
signal, triggered by the index to simulate a hard-sectored drive on a
1.2MB unit?
