Is TrueType an open format at all?
I have been interested in building my own fonts for decades
at this point.
It is open in the sense that specifications to make a font or a font
renderer are openly available.
The easiest way to make fonts in either TT, PS or the new common superset
Open Type is to use Font Forge, a free font editor which is really good.
