Okay, now I'm curious. What's unbalanced about the one and balanced
about the other? (Of course, it quite possibly would be perfectly
obvious if I knew more about the relevant interfaces.)
Compare coaxial cable with twin-lead. In coaxial cable, there's a
center conductor surrounded by a (usually grounded) shield, which acts
as the other conductor. In twin-lead, the two conductors are
symmetrical, and (usually) neither is grounded.
