Exactly. And I despise folk music too but I *love* Alice's Restaurant.
It's mostly a political shaggy-dog story with only one verse of singing
along with the git-tar. Might be an exception to your rule too.

My wife worked for a while as a classical music announcer at a local radio station (PBS in
New Hampshire). She played Alice?s Restaurant on Thanksgiving Day (since it?s about that
day). The manager gave her a lot of grief for that (not classical music after all, and
besides PBS managers usually are seriously uptight people). But there was such an
outpouring of appreciation from listeners that she changed around, and the next year my
wife was in fact encouraged to ?continue the tradition?. Which she did.
