Hmm. I was thinking that the 550 needed RAM cards
in pairs, and I was
right. However, the diagnostics info says the 55L doesn't. Cool. I
may even have spare RAM cards, as well as the SIMMs. I'll look, if you
want. No CD drive? Finding bootable CD drives are a PITA. Plextor is
your friend. ;)
It sounds like an excellent machine.
No CD drive of course. As far as SCSI cd-drives, I have a drive from a
Sun SS5, a PowerMAC 5260, and a HP SureStore 2x6 CD-R drive I can try.
Any suggestions on which one to try first?

I tried hooking a serial terminal up to it, and booting w/o the
framebuffer card (or KB or mouse), but no luck. I was using 9600baud, 1
stop bit, no parity, should I try something else? Any ideas on what kind
of monitor I could interface to it?
One of the hard drives (which I have yet to
determine the size of) was
completely unhooked from the scsi bus and power, so it's probably either a
spare or broken..
Full-height or 1"? Any ideas on
where to get a bootable tape so I can reset root's password
(haven't booted it yet, still gotta try that first.)
Um. You'll need to boot far enough to find what version you're
running, anyway. The version on tape has to be a fair match to get
maintenance mode.
