I don't know how many households had a home
computer in the 80's and
early 90's in the UK, but my meory is that it was a lot, at least
amongst those families who had children.
Certainly enough to support a substantial home-grown industry, as well
as a dozen or so magazines. Sinclair, Amstrad, BBC, Tatung, Oric were
all fairly big sellers in the home market as well as more international
makes like Atari and Amiga. IBM-type PCs were rare in UK homes until
the early '90s.
