Yeah. I'm really going to fork out ?200 per year for HPUG membership,
just to get a "free" software licence, even if they bothered to reply to
emails. HPUG have *nothing* to offer me.
I had similar experiences about two or three years ago. The US chapter
wouldn't accept me as I was in the UK and the UK chapter wouldn't offer
the free associate membership.
Tried again a few months ago - apparently you can register with
'Connect' for free, although I couldn't find the free option at the time
and ended up paying 35 euros. You live and learn...

Good news is that once you've got a number they are not expired in the
licensing system, so you only technically have to subscribe once.
