Hm. "Pecker" means something... rather different over here.
Err, yes... And not a description of a bird that is feeding, right :-)
We have an experession here 'Keep your pecker up' which means essentially
'Stay cheerful'. That has as a rather different meaning to you, I guess :-)
But the term 'pecker' in relation to mechancial tape readers is used in
official Creed manuals and books about such machines.
Mind you, I have at least one paper tape punch manual that describes a
swithc that feeds totally unpunched tape (not even sprocktt holes) and
producing 'virgin tape -- that is tape without holes'. That could have
other connotations :-)
