And what is wrong with 4 bits (Intel 4004, 4040), 20 bits (classic PERQ),
24 bits (PERQ T4 -- OK, I will be very suprised if any of those turn
up!), 32 bits (some 32 bit machines are certainly classics by now), 56
bits (HP calculators had bit-serial CPUs with 56 bit registers), etc,
etc, etc...
