I had one of those Chinese TOP USB programmers--it worked okay, but
wouldn't do some legacy devices. I took a peek inside the unit and
found that there were pads for a DC "barrel" receptacle on board, but
unpopulated. Had I hung onto the programmer, I would have populated
the pads and used the unit with an external power supply.
For what it's worth, the power supply on the Xeltek supplies 9VDC at
2A, which is far more than a USB port can manage.
