If the protection is not set, you can read just like a EPROM
microcontroller. If it is set...well, there are ways, but it is
something hard to do :)
So do EPROM/PAL programmers exist that are also capable of
programming (and reading) a variety of microcontroller on-board
ROMs? They quite possibly do, although I've never seen one (but I
haven't gone shopping for a programmer in years)
My Data I/O UniSite (purchased from a listmember) has dealt with
every bizarre chip I've thrown at it. The supported device list for
the current release of its software contains more than TWENTY
THOUSAND entries. I can't recommend them highly enough.
No 1702[A] support, though, sadly, but I have another programmer
for those. :)
