And if it's running X, wine is running a lot of good apps
nowadays (well, this week's release hasn't broken on me yet, but
I'll admit I don't play a lot of the fancy games). And most of
the old Big 5 arcade games for the TRS-80 work under xtrs (thanks,
Tim Mann).
And as far as first languages go, bash is a damned fine structured
programming language. With access to lots of external programs.
