None that I know of. ESDI is just ST-506 with a faster data R/W
channel, therefore it's generally not possible to tell. If the
capacity is written on the drive, then MFM tops out at about 140Mb.
Anything above that is more likely ESDI (Especially if it a
Micropolis).
The only 'fer sure' way to know is to consult a drive
table.

Today I picked up a HP 7958B unit which contains a
"Bauart Gepruft model
97533-60051" Hard Drive. It is my understanding that this Hard Drive is an
MFM Hard Drive
The HP 97533 is a 160 Mbyte drive. It was available in several
interfaces, but none of them were MFM. Seeing as how you've already
identified the 34 and 20-pin connectors, I'd wager that you've got
the 97533E, the ESDI interface model.
Ah, yet another ESDI, it really is starting to look like I need to get one
of these systems running off of one of the ESDI cards I've got! That's the
4th ESDI drive I've ended up with.
Stupid question, is there a good way to tell ESDI drives from MFM drives?
