Nice found, I suppose you mean the HP 9836C aka 9000 236. Cleaning the driv=
es and reseating the boards do solve most of the problems you described. On=
If it is a 9836C, then there is another common casues of disk erros when
the drives and disks as good. There is a 256 byte sector buffer RAM on the
disk cotnroller PCB (the one that has the ribbon cables to the disk
drives). This RAM can be a pair of 2114ws (with a couple of addres pins
groudnsd). And 2114s are not the most reliable ICs ever made.
My 9836CU had soem odd disk problems until I replaced those ICs...
