No kidding. Some of the houses around here still have knob-and-tube.
My mother's house developed a short when I was a kid - the electricity
went in *after* the furnace, and the cloth-wrapped wires were run
right *through* the cold-air return. Seventy-some years later, the
motion of the floor joists cut through the insulation and the duct
closed the circuit. 1/3 of the house was off the grid. :-(
