Is it as simple as the drive not supporting 512 byte reads? That was the
killer for the older VMS on things like the Vaxen. Native sector size on
the disk was 4K but the boot loader needed to read things in 512b chunks.
So only specific CD ROM drives would work. I wonder if that is the case for
the DVD. Can you put the source media in a Linux box and DD off the
contents?

Right, but I would need a way to get the image onto a
SCSI disk and I
don't think I have anything that will do it as I don't think I have another

hopefully that will work.

Actually you do have a 3rd way. Image the installation cd (or dvd) on an
hd, and
boot from that to install

Oggetto: RE: What DVD Drive for an Itanium RX2620
Sadly, the drive I ordered from eBay has the wrong connector, so it
won't
work
for me. Unfortunately, I can't find any in
the UK that match the exact
part
numbers in the User Service Guide.
Is there anyone in the UK who has one of the following that they would be
willing to part with?
AB348A
AB616-62001
AB616-69001
AB348B
AB348-67001
A9919A
A7231-62012
A7231-69012
A9919B
A9919-67001
Alternatively I will look for a SCSI DVD drive I can connect to my
InfoServer, as
that seems to be another way to install VMS onto
the machine.

Rob

That DVD drive looks an awful lot like the CDROM/DVD drives used on
the little HP Vectra E-PCs also. Perhaps another source.
