There was Simon's BASIC, but I only knew a few
people who used it - in
part because when you used the graphics/sound extensions, you couldn't
share the results with a non-owner. You could make fun stuff for
yourself, but unlike "plain" programs one could get through BBSes and
User Groups, your efforts couldn't be universally enjoyed.
Epyx tried to get around this with Programmer's BASIC Toolkit where you
could include a runtime. Unfortunately, PBT also really dorked around
with the OS, so you were very much limited to the language and couldn't
really expand from there.
