Black widows will depart if you open their hiding
place to the light
for any
significant length of time.
That's interesting. My first ever encounter with a black widow, at age
11 or
so, was on the front porch of my grandmother's mother-in-law's house, on
a
sunny summer day in south-central Oklahoma, on a web slung between a
rocking
chair and the wall. Not much hiding in the dark there. Nor much
evidence that
she was trying to get away.
