question: what was first? Lisp or FORTRAN?)
Lisp 1965 Fortran 1958
both were hot in 1966, but FTN was ahead then too.

real quick, 35 minutes
I had to program in Fortran on a mainframe for an engineering class back in
1989-90. I always wondered who the heck still did work with Fortran at that
point. Nothing like writing a program that computed multiple chemical
reactions in .003 seconds of computer time and then having to wait 20
minutes for a printout to see if it worked or not. I guess its better then
tying up a 286 machine for hours doing the same calculations.
