Yes, it's possible, but it's very limited in speed. and flexibility
See, for exmple, my 1987 SIMTEL program to drive an HPIB plotter
using a parallel port. I also seem to recall that the Victor 9000
even had an optional GPIB cable to attach to the prallel port.
