little springs that press the heads DOWNWARD.
Sounds a bit like the DEC DF-32 - 1/4" steel platters plated with something
(nickel?) The drive motor has a seperate power switch from the electronics,
The Librascope L321 fixed-head drive I've got is coated with cobalt
according to the literature.
My anecdotal evidence is that the DF-32 disk is Omsmium plated. I hope not,
as I have four platters with, probably, fatal levels of restarting, meaning
that if I ever want to return them to service, I'll have to either replace
or replate the platters.
