Subject: Curious ex-BT modems
Merry Christmas to all!
Yarr :)
I remember I never got one of these to talk to a
remote modem of any
type. I'm wondering if they're supposed to be used in pairs (or talk to
some specific remote equipment that I don't have) and use some sort of
non-standard data compression, or even encryption.
Any ideas anyone? Anybody know of any UK telecoms lists where there may
be people who can help?
From your description I can only guess they're
leased-line modems for use
with muxes at each end for remote terminal use, though I
remember we used to
have 'em on either end of a fixed link that was used for X25 comms with the
good ol' DEMSB X25 gateway......bits of my brain are telling me I used to
get DDCMP over a pair of them with asynch adapters 'cos they were
synchronous modems, but hell, I should be in bed :)
