FedEX does packing if you bring it to them but I've never used it. I just
know (or think) that's the only way they'll insure an item so perhaps it's
in their best interest to pack it well.
My most delicate shipment was also crated but they packed it themselves I
believe then shipped it via conway (I think mostly because the seller
already had a company account/discount with them but they did mention they
liked conway as a freight shipper). It arrived fine, the forklift driver
was happy to drive it and lift it into the back of my truck and they even
gave me two wooden pallets to use in my truck as a stuffer to keep it from
sliding around.

If this is a full-height chassis, I would definitely
recommend shipping
this freight, boxed and strapped to a pallet. Always assume that a loose
parcel will be dropped from a height of several feet, including on a
corner, and will be handled in any orientation. Parcels are handled on
conveyors and dropped into trucks. If you don't think the box can handle a
3 or 4 ft drop, or be rolled end-over-end without damage to the contents,
go for palletized freight.
