I hadn't
thought of that - unixy-something on a 68K would be kind of
nice. I should do that on the Mac LC 475 that has been sitting in my

I have a Q605 (LC 475's closest relative) with a full
'040 that runs
NetBSD very nicely. It's actually pretty snappy, considering, although
it takes it a bit to generate SSH keys.
The 25MHz IIci runs NetBSD extremely reliably, just extremely slowly.
A/UX does much better on my 50MHz IIci (Daystar '030 + FPU card) than at
its stock speed.
It's surprising how practical Unix on a 68K Mac can be.
I have NetBSD running on an SE/30. To call it "slow" is perhaps being a
bit too charitable, but it does run and it's been pretty reliable. I
had it running my webserver for a year or so when I was in college
without too many problems. It's kind of a perverse thrill to see X
running on a Classic Mac, though it's beyond painful to use for a
variety of reasons :). (Really makes you appreciate how snappy classic
Mac OSes were.)
