At UC Berkeley, ~15 years ago, Clancy and Harvey took over the lower
division undergraduate CS instruction. They used Scheme (a Lisp
derivative), because "recursion is the only possible way to solve a
problem with more than one independent variable" (I didn't know that
nested loops were "impossible"), and they declared,
"Nobody uses assembly language any more, nor ever will again!"
UC Berkeley was ONCE a good place to learn CS.
