Tapes are history.
Not hardly. They've
finally got stiff competition in off-site
spinning copies and second- and third-tier disk arrays, but they're a
long, long way from going away as production hardware.
IBM Poughkeepsie has a
truly gigantic (thousands and thousands of square
feet) customer tape pool. Tapes are very much still in use.
Is it stored there because Pough-Keep-Sie?
Oh, it was bad, but I found it fun :o)
