Very interesting project. Won't standard tape
heads only work reliably
if the magnetic material's passing by at quite a narrow range of speeds,
though? Google suggests that's 1 7/8" per second, which isn't very fast
at all - a drum that can do a few tens of RPM seems possible, but 6000??
It makes a difference to the bandwidth and signal level; cassette tapes
run at 1_7/8 ips, domestic 1/4" tape runs at 3_3/4 ips or 7_1/2 ips,
1/4" studio tapes typically run at 7_1/2 or 15 ips.
