I suspect SNOBOL4 (or at least S/360 SNOBOL4) was more
of a mongrel,
with perhaps some of the parser and interpreter written in SIL, but
called from a FORTRAN mainline program.
I've been trying to find documentation on SIL and the related VM language
MINIMAL, but other than references to papers on it I can't find, I can't
find a description of opcodes. Does anyone have this around?
I found a SNOBOL4 text book, however, and it's a rather fascinating language.
I can see where TRAC got some of its ideas.
