All 4 of the laptops I've dismantled had ribbon interfaces much like
the floppy cables. I have no idea what sort of signal drives them.
Color TFT interface is pretty simple, much like CRT video interface but
digital data. Mono (passive) probably uses 8 bit U/L (4 bit = 4 pixels upper
screen half/4 bit= 4 pixels lower screen half so one clock writes 8 pixels)
Color passive display interfaces are a real mess...
I _would_ like to know what that type of cable is properly called.
Flat mylar(?) with applied traces, not wires, attaches to the PCB with a
clamping header?

My literature refers to them as FFC's (Flat Flexible Cables)
We use some .5mm pitch ones for interfacing to small LCDs
