Dumb question (perhaps), but do the relative positions of the disk
platters in the pack matter on these systems? I suppose it might for
interleaving purposes for data already recorded.
Yes! Most of these drives are hard-secotred, the sector start is
determined by notches in the hub. If you move the platter(s) relative to
the hub, you'll not be able to read the sectors any more.
