So yes, mislabelled components are alas all too common
now.

Interesting history:
Some years ago a sinclair clone was made in Brazil (CP200 from
Prologica). Some time later, they choosen to "update" it with a new design
and a smaller cabinet (and bizarre keys from CP400). So they made a pair of
dedicated ASIC chips in DIP-40 package. And marked... 6809 and 6821!!! You
could identify the chips because of "chip 1" and "chip 2" name near
the
code, but it was marked as 6809 and 6821 because there was a license to
import these chips, so they could be imported from the manufacturer with
cheap custom taxes
